Tomorrow When The War Began - Chapter 21

  1. What is it that primarily attracts Fi to Homer? Homer changed dramatically within these past chapters. He acted more manly and he also acted as a leader. I also think she became attracted to Homer because of how he changed.
  2. What are Fi’s intentions regarding Homer? According to Fi, she wanted to learn how to plant crops so she can help Homer when they are married. It shows how determined Fi is that she and Homer will last for a long time. It shows that Fi is already planning her future with Homer.
  3. Why does this surprise, Ellie? Ellie is surprised because she didn't expect Fi will have a relationship with Homer. She was also surprised because on how Fi is looking forward to her future with him. She can't picture Fi and Homer living together under the same roof because of their differences between each other, that's why she is so surprised.
  4. How do Ellie and Fi feel as they are leaving the scene on their motorbikes? Are these real feelings? Ellie felt nothing like she was already dead. Ellie said that she can't feel anything because of the situation, she didn't know if she already got shot like she was already unconscious. Until Fi shouted to her, she gained back her consciousness. They felt really happy and proud of themselves that they made it out safe and alive.
  5. Why do you think the group decided to blow up the bridge? So that the soldiers can't go through their camp or base. They decided to blow the bridge up so the invaders can't capture them. If they blew it up, it will lessen the chance of them being captured.
  6. How is this exploit different from the other exploits the group has been on? The part when Fi and Ellie being exploited or seen is the most dangerous one. If the soldiers got lucky they've been two cold bodies right now. Luckily for them, the soldiers don't have the aim to shoot them because of the cattles.

Tomorrow When The War Began - Chapter 17 & 18

  1. Why does Ellie feel uncomfortable with Chris bringing cigarettes and alcohol into Hell? It's not the time for using this stuff. It might also affect their friendships because of the alcohol, and these two things are bad for their health. It's inappropriate to use and drink these two things because of their situation.
  2. What is meant by a “clean war”? Why are the invaders so intent on having a ‘clean war’? The invaders said that they want this invasion to be a clean war, it probably means not having a tremendous amount of casualties around the place and not that much killing. The people who got captured are being treated nicely at the showground, but they still blew some houses and killed people.
  3. What happened to the soldiers involved in the lawnmower incident, according to Robyn? How does this make Ellie feel? They died because of the explosion caused by Ellie. Two of them died and one is on the brink of death. Ellie felt shocked and she also felt guilty.
  4. Why do you think prisoners are sent to clean up the houses around town? The invaders already said that they wanted to reduce the imbalance between the region. The invaders might be poor so they decided to take things like jewelry and other stuff. They might just need the stuff to support the life of the people in the showground.
  5. What does Kevin want to bring into Hell by way of livestock? Do you think his idea is a good one? Why/why not? I think that it is a bad idea because it might change the forest and the animals living within it. It could also affect your crops.
Chapter 18

  1. What does Ellie find primarily attractive about Lee? Ellie finds Lee intelligent, calm, and easy to talk to. She also likes the way Lee looks like. She also said that she felt calm and safe around Lee.
  2. Who is she attracted to physically? She is physically attracted to Homer.
  3. What are the group’s options according to Homer? Homer gave them three options. The first one is that they just stay in hell and keep grabbing supplies until a rescue or the invasion is over. The second option - which probably the most wanted option that they want to do - is to rescue and save their family in the showground, which just like Homer said, it's difficult to achieve and accomplish. The third and last option is to surrender so that they can be with their families again.
  4. What do they decide to do and why? They decided to do something with the road at Cobbler's bay. They didn't specify what will they do or what they plan is but they said that they will plan something while they're in there.

Tomorrow When The War Began - Chapter 19 & 20

Chapter 19
  1. What makes Ellie think the soldiers walking past them are professionals? Because of how they reacted when they notice something or someone rattling around the bushes. They quickly made a move and throw themselves into it. They did not even hesitate and made a decision.
  2. What do the soldiers fire at in the bushes? They mistakenly thought that someone is in the bushes but it was only a rabbit.
  3. What are some clues that the group is starting to think ‘more like soldiers’? They already started acting like soldiers when the invasion started. The group started having these ideas that only a military personnel or a soldier and putting them into action. They also became more alerted and they move and act like one.
  4. Do you think Homer’s plan will work? What problems do you think they might encounter? I think that it will work if they move independently and swiftly. It will also work if all their equipment is gathered and there are no problems. Also, Lee still can't walk properly caused by the wound on his leg. He also can't fight back because of his condition. The cattle also can be a problem because they can go in a different direction. Driving the fuel tanker also is a problem because if Ellie gets caught, it will cause her life and the plan will not work.
  5. What does Homer suggest they do when the group goes up to the Heron? Homer decided to blow up the bridge. They each have plans and roles to do. Ellie is the driver of the fuel tanker, Fi will go with Ellie and signal her if the place is clear. Homer is the one who will handle the cattle.
  6. What are his strategies to put his plan into action? The cows are supposed to be a distraction for the soldiers. Homer imagined that the soldiers will be distracted by the running cows and when they do get distracted, that's the time that they will put the fuel tanker under the bridge and blow it up.

Chapter 20

  1. Why is Ellie nervous about being paired with Fi? It's because that she hasn't paired with Fi yet. She also said that she is still kinda hesitant. I think that Ellie is having a doubt about Fi doing the job.
  2. What is true courage according to Ellie? According to Ellie, she said that courage is still doing the job even if you are afraid and you think that you can't do it.
  3. Were her concerns about Fi realized? Explain. Ellie's concerns about Fi was not realized because she did the job with high confidence.
  4. What is a clue that Fi’s relationship with Homer is becoming serious? Their relationship improved because when they were talking, Fi whispered "I love you" to Homer which Homer responded, " I love you too Fi ". This indicates that their relationship improved lot because they have the guts to say that to each other.
  5. What problems do Fi and Ellie encounter on their mission to bring the tanker to the appropriate place under the bridge? How do they deal with these problems? The first problem that they encountered was the patrol. They need to get out of the tanker and hide somewhere so they can not be seen and captured - even killed. The second one was the brakes, the alarm of the brakes causes them to take more time to drive the tanker.

Tomorrow When The War Began - Chapter 15 & 16

Chapter 15

What do Ellie and Lee find in the Hermit’s hut that the others don’t know about? They found a medal and some documents about the tragedy that occurred about the Hermit. They also found letters and newspapers about the same tragedy.

According to the coroner’s report, what are the two possible ways the Hermit’s family died...
1) That the Hermit - which is Bertram Hubert Sexton Christie - killed his wife - Imogen Mary Christie - and his child - Alfred Bertram Christie- with a rifle then burned them afterwards.

2) That the Hermit could possibly saw his wife and child burning -fact that bushfires constantly happens on that place- and thought that the hospital is far away on that area and they could not support his family financially if he took them to the hospital. He ended there suffering by shooting them in the head.

I don't know which one is the right one because given the lack of evidence about the tragedy. There can be a lot of possible ways on how the Hermit's family died. Yes, he is still a criminal because he still used a weapon to end someone's life, but if the second possible theory is the right one, it is not appropriate to call him a murderer.

Which do you believe? Why? In my own opinion, I think that the second theory is the most possible and more appropriate one because he is a soldier and he was praised and given a medal for his bravery. He already saves someone's life so it wouldn't make sense if he will kill his own family and save his ally's life. But there is one other thing that opposes what I believe in. It is that why did he hide in a deserted area. Is it more appropriate to say to the police that he did it for a good cause? Is it because of guilt? Or did he already planned to kill them?

He also might be framed for doing it. There might be someone else that killed his family and he is being accused that he did it.

Chapter 16

What is the Hermit’s mother in law’s attitude toward him as seen in her letter? The Hermit's mother in law defends and trust him that he is innocent. She said that he is always welcome under her roof and she will always protect and stand by his side.

The way that she wrote the letter is kinda strange because the way that she reacted to it is calm.

What does this suggest about the way in which the Hermit’s family actually died? I think that they framed him from doing the tragedy. Someone else might have done it at it was blamed all on him because he is the biggest possible person to do it.

What makes Ellie change her mind about Lee on the way back from the Hermit’s hut? She was annoyed about Lee forcing her to feel the same as what he is feeling towards Ellie. If it is a scoreboard between Lee and Homer, Lee is leading in a huge margin of points. It also shows that Ellie is more comfortable doing stuff like this with Lee instead of Homer.

In DTE we started our new topic  'Robotics and Mechatronics'. Before we start to use actual robots and machines, we have been told to create an infographic about it.

Tomorrow When The War Began - Chapter 13

Chapter 13

All the teenagers have a specific role to play in their group. Describe the roles each teenager plays?
Ellie- Ellie is the narrator and like the main character of the book. She is also one of the leaders of the group. She makes everyone feel a lot better even in the situation that they are in.

Homer- He acts like a same as Ellie and he orders everyone to do something. He also comes up with most of the group's ideas and plans.

Chris- He is the patrol or the one who stays awake at night to keep an eye on the surroundings.

Fi- She is like a translator for the group because she can speak and understand different languages. She also motivates the group.

Robyn- She helps Ellie turning his plans into actions. She also acts like a medic because of how she treated Lee when he is shot.

Lee- Lee has been quiet and he hasn't done much in this past chapters because he is injured, but if we're going to look

Kevin- Kevin is the one who is low-tempered and takes everything seriously. He wants to do everything in a physical way. He gave splendid ideas that had positive effects on their group.

Corrie- Corrie is has been quiet in this past chapters as well but she can be easy to talk to and she can also motivate the group.

According to what the teenagers hear on Corrie's radio, why would America be best not to get involved in Australia’s struggle? Because if America got involved in the invasion - just like the invaders said - it will be a catastrophe. Basically, it will be deadly and it will tremendously cost lives and money. I think that it is a good idea - for the Americans - because you wouldn't want your people to die from the other country's problems. But I also oppose the idea of not helping other countries because it can cause another war between Americans and Australians.

Why is Australia being invaded? According to the invaders, it is because of the unbalance between the region. We still don't know who and where did these invaders come from but I think that they want something from Australia.

A reader can infer many things from the snippet of news heard over Corrie’s radio. Which country or countries are likely to have invaded Australia? Fi did say that it was Taiwanese but there can be more countries that invaded Australia and the Taiwanese can just be an ally of the main country or the perpetrator of the invasion.

How are the prisoners being treated? The invaders did say that the ones who got captured are being treated like normal people. If they were injured, there are medics and doctors that can help them, It wasn't in the book but I think that they are being fed properly. But they were not given freedom to do anything they want.

What do Kevin and Robyn argue about? Do you think Robyn’s points are fair? They were arguing about why they were being invaded. Kevin said that they were supposed to fight back against the invaders because they were the ones who started it all. Robyn - who is not against the idea - sees the situation in a different way. Robyn kinda accepts that they deserve the invasion. They kept going until Homer made a poll or a voting system on how or what they should do.

Chapter 14

What reasons does Ellie give Lee for not wanting a relationship with him? Ellie said to Lee that she is still not sure about what she feels about Lee. When they kissed, Ellie said that it means something but she also said that it could just the effect of the situation that they were in on that night. Ellie is stressed and she also dreamt about Lee that night.

What do you think are the real reasons? I think that she is afraid and confused about what she is feeling. She didn't only like Lee but as well as Homer. She is afraid that she was going to pick the wrong choice.
